Frequently Asked Questions

Who?

The Division of Undergraduate Education facilitates and coordinates the campus community planning of Hack Arizona in a vertically integrated (all levels of institution) and horizontally distributed (all colleges) manner. Planning participants include undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, faculty, and administrators spanning any major or discipline at the university. All are welcome

Event participation is open to all students who attend any institute of higher education in the state of Arizona.

What?

A hackathon is a time bound event that offers participants an opportunity to work together in teams to develop solutions to a specific problem.

Hackathon is a combination of the word hacker (an individual who uses computer, networking, or other skills to overcome a problem) and marathon (a long-lasting and/or difficult event, task, or operation marked by endurance).

When?

Hack Arizona will take place in Spring 2025

Where?

Hack Arizona takes place in the Student Success District at the University of Arizona.

How?

Hack Arizona is always looking for help from interested University of Arizona students! Hiring for student co-chairs and student organizers typically takes place later in the spring semester via Handshake.

Staff, faculty, and administrators who are interested in mentoring students planning the hackathon should email hackaz@arizona.edu. Mentors should be available during the fall and early spring semesters to meet with students 1-2 hours per week and via email to answer questions from their respective student planning team members.
